                    WHAT IS MUSIC TOGETHER?

Music Together® is a music and movement approach to early childhood music development for children and their parents, teachers, and other caregivers.

Originally offered in 1987, Music Together pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement.

               WHY DO ADULTS PARTICIPATE?

Did you know that children respond most to those with whom they have a bond of attachment? They learn directly from the modeling of their primary caregivers.

Regardless of your own musical ability, your participation shows your child that music is fun and safe to explore.  We create an environment that is musically rich and accessible to children and adults!

                   WHY IS MUSIC IMPORTANT?

Music affects us in so many ways.                                                                                                      It can help us relax, become energized, or feel able to focus.  It touches our hearts and brings us closer to each other.

              Music learning supports all learning.

Music has a tremendous power, early in life, to support the developing child in all his growing capacities.  It forges unique connections in the brain, integrating mind, body, and emotions.

Participating in musical activities supports language development, cognitive growth, emotional growth, social growth, and physical development.

              MUSIC TOGETHER ® PRESCHOOL

Music is an important part of every day at a Music Together Preschool.  Children attend a 30-min. music class each week with their teachers, who bring the songs and activities back to their classroom routine

Although Music Together's goals are for children to achieve tonal and rhythmic competence, the Music Together Preschool program model supports language development and pre-literacy, active listening skills, spatial awareness, numerical literacy, problem-solving, creativity and self-expression, leadership skills, group process, body awareness and motor skill development.

Music activities provide teachers with a different perspective and appreciation of each child's learning and development.

Each semester a different song collection is introduced which contains a carefully balanced mix of songs, rhythmic rhymes, tonal and rhythm patterns, and instrumental play-alongs in a wide variety of tonalities, meters, and musical styles.

Every family is provided with a CD set, a Parent Guide DVD called "Music Together at Home: Helping Your Child Grow Musically" and an illustrated songbook for music fun at home.  Family nights and gatherings are held each semester, and parents are free to attend music classes at any time with their child's class.

    PARENT/CHILD CLASSES

45 minute classes are held weekly for 12 children of mixed ages and their parents or caregivers.  Siblings can  attend at a reduced cost.  Semesters  run for 10 weeks, with a new song collection introduced each semester.  Each collection includes new songs, chants, movement activities, and instrumental jam sessions. Children and adults join in the circle and participate, regardless of musical ability!  Families receive a CD set and illustrated songbook to continue activities at home, and can purchase instruments from the national website.
